Nikola Tesla

The Tesla coil has fascinated people since Nikola Tesla invented the high-powered transformer. Although Thomas Edison inventions and contributions to science have typically overshadowed Tesla's invention, the Tesla coil has found its way into becoming an exhibitionist prop to demonstrate the power of electricity.

I have always been fascinated by Tesla Coils, and musical tesla coils in particular. This experiment marks my first exploration into Tesla coils and surely will not be my last. For this project I found an amazing tutorial online that walked me through step-by-step how to wind the primary coil, secondary coil, build the top toroid, everything. It was very complete, you can find the tutorial here: http://makezine.com/projects/make-35/six-pack-tesla-coil/. Serious take a look at it, you will not regret the read.

Disclaimer: Tesla Coils are high voltage transformers and can cause a lot of damage if improperly operated or warnings are not followed. The light that is emitted from the top load produce UV light that can cause damage your eyes. Tesla coils generate an electromagnetic field and can cause damage to nearby electrical devices such a pacemakers. Tesla Coils are also known to create O-zone gases which are harmful to lung tissue, do not operate Tesla Coils inside closed spaces. THESE ARE NOT TOYS, and should not be approached as such.
