Today in the Be A Maker Greenhouse we worked on transplanting some of the "Fractal" Broccoli into larger pots. I also noticed that some of the seed cells still have yet to germinate, so I took it upon myself to clear some space by mulching them. At the same time, we have three flats of Spinach and Arugula that are getting just about ready to shift out to the outdoor planter boxes.
Next week we are running a program to teach kids how to become little urban farmers themselves, so the guys in the BAM space are hard at work preparing the greenhouse. We are planning on having the kids use the Spinach and Arugula to plant in the spaces made by harvesting our lettuce and swiss chard. Ultimately we plan to set up a small scale market to sell the veggies next week to passerbys on Wisconsin Avenue and Michigan Avenue. I am very excited to see kids reactions to all the hard work we have put into the greenhouse.
Be sure to check back next week for updates from our young Urban Farmers!
Stay tuned for more updates!
