MakeShift: Heat

This month's MakeShift event that I helped organize talked about the concept of heat. We had a custom built Yackitori grill, flame cannon (that I built), welding demos, and a Raku demo! Everyone who came out had a great time, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone in October for our Wicked themed event!

Oh and how can I forget, Mike and I built these skewers with the "Diwire" wire bender.

Pete was busy teaching people how to melt down bottle caps and milk jugs into a workable slab of HDPE. For a nicely written write up on how to do this yourself, check out the link below:

mmmmmmmhhh.... Brownies!

Everyone had a blast (no pun intended) with the fire cannon that I built the night before. Not to shabby for something that was hacked together for a little under $150.00!

Near the end of the night Bill pulled out some pottery that he prepared earlier in the day. First he put the pots in a mixture of sawdust (and probably plastic dust from the Betty Brinn Museum's shop).

During the demonstration he explained that the glazes would react differently in a "reduction" environment vs. cooling down exposed to oxygen. So we see Bill below taking a trash can and sealing the piece inside. Watch out Bill, don't let the "Rakk-oons" escape!
