Mike, the head director of the Be A Maker space, came over to my parents house a few days ago to keep working on the Betty Brinn Children's Museum Power Wheels car that I have been working on for this years Maker Faire Milwaukee.
Maker Faire Milwaukee will be happening September 26 and 27th at the State Fair Park grounds. This year there will be a Power Wheels Racing demonstration so be sure to check it out. You will see two, maybe more cars rip it up around the track at an unofficial Power Wheels Racing Series Race.

Mike was able to create quick work of the old lawnmower frame with work's plasma cutter.
Once we got our wheel spacing right, it was time to weld the subframe together. Mike is an expert welder, or at least has a lot more experience than myself so we agreed that I would angle grind all the paint off the "bed frame" angle iron, while he did all the welding.
We worked until the late on the car, and only ran into minor snags like the photo below where Mike had to plasma cut some steel that was obstructing the frame rails from fitting correctly with the front axel.
By the end of the night Mike and I were successful in getting a rolling chassis together to bring into work. Success! Now that we have a car that rolls and should be strong enough for a grown adult to ride a few laps.
Look at that aggressive stance! It looks like a dragster with the massive back wheels. If you are interested in learning how to build your own car, be sure to check out the following posts because there will be some dimensions and walkthroughs helping anyone interested get involved and build their own car to compete next year!
