Harvest time at the museum means a colorful display of vegetables and fruits.
Bill was teaching families about our greenhouse efforts and even let some families pull a carrot or two!
Mike and Bill, of the Be a Maker space, have been interested in drying herbs that we have been growing on our rooftop garden. The above shows lavender that has been drying all week.
This week the sunflowers were in full bloom!
Bill cut open this pepper to show kids the seeds and talk a little bit about how urban farming can be sustainable year to year by saving seeds.
'Woah! A carrot!'
All of these tomatoes were grown from just ONE tomato plant. Isn't that fantastic? The only special care that we gave this plant was fertilizing with 'Bat Guano' organic fertilizer every month of the growing season.
It was great to see the excitement of the kids pulling their own vegetables out of the ground. It was always a goal for the greenhouse that we would inspire families to do a little bit of gardening at their own homes. Besides taking a new appreciation for gardening and plants, many of the families that helped out with the garden went home with a bag or two of fresh vegetables.
