This past week we had our monthly MakeShift event and we had one of the largest turnouts yet! This months MakeShift revolved around Thanksgiving with the aptly named 'Let's Talk Turkey.' We had Turkey leftover recipes such as the "Rachelle," also known as a tasty rueben sandwich with turkey, bourbon potatoes, various Turkey sauces, pecan bars, and thats just for food! Our guests were invited to help bottle beer from our June Makeshift event, make some warm fleece gloves for winter, and make greeting cards with LEDs.
The food was set up right when you walked in and was a popular spot for our guests to camp out, and can you blame them? The food was delicious!
The greeting card making happened in the Be A Maker space.
Although how to make a greeting card was not a guided project, we had several guests take the initiative to help out others with their projects, and we even had some beautiful origami creations being made! Thanks so much Adrian!
Joe Dorn and Mike Krueger organized the bottling efforts this month and were always willing to answer any questions (especially all of mine) that our guests could think up.
Mike showed us the proper method to sterilize, fill, and cap the bottles with a very nifty tool.
When they invited us to try it, some of us got it on our first try.
Some of us (myself) were not as coordinated. Pay particular attention to all the helpful hands reaching for the bottle that I am capping.
Way to go Pete!
Joshua Arter a.k.a Paper wolf came out with Brad 'BKnitts' Knitter to promote their new album and the music was great, as always! Thanks guys for coming out, and thank you for the awesome stickers!
Some examples of cards were proudly displayed on the back wall of BAM.
I particularly thought this card made excellent use of the LED lights that were available to use.
Our visitors even had a great time with our normal exhibits. Here is one of our guests imagining he is a graphic designer at our 'Chip Kidd Station' located in Word Headquarters!
From pattern making,
to sewing,
Everyone had a great time sewing their own gloves. I heard a number of people say they were making a pair for themselves or their children.
There was however one casulty of the evening. One sewing machine wasn't working, but luckily we had two Maker space geniuses to break the machine down and try and fix it!
Thanks a lot guys!
Without the risk of sounding like a broken record,
Thank you all for making this another successful MakeShift, I hope to see you (and your new gloves) all next month!
