Valentine's Day at the Be A Maker space included using these laser cut letterpress messages to make unique messages for loved ones. We had an overwhelming turnout, in fact, we saw multiple parents making one, two, even THREE Valentine's Cards themselves!
Some of the cute messages that the children and parents made and forgot could be found hanging up all around the Be A Maker space.
Kisses + Hugs.
Kids of all ages brought something new to the table.
The younger kids were happy to get a helping hand from Mom or Dad.
Everyone welcome Hannah to the BAM team! She made herself at home jumping right in and helping children and families get set up with paper and supplies to start the day's activities. Your a rock star!
It was a full house. This was the typical number of guests that were constantly making Valentines! Its no surprise that we ran out of supplies!
Some of the DCRL interns were happy to lend a helping hand. Here we see Becky explaining how 3D printing worked to some interested guests!
More Ink Please!
The inks that we used were all water based inks, but we still didn't want to risk hand prints all over the museum so a group of volunteers inked up the stamps that the children chose and they printed them. That didn't necessarily stop everyone from getting messy but we were prepared with water and towels on hand to wipe up any messes.
We have to admit this was probably one of the most successful activities to date. Our only regret is not having more supplies to spread the love for an additional hour! Everyone was so positive and polite, saying "please" and "thank you" when asking for more ink which kept the volunteers spirits high.
When the day was over John headed back over to the Gold Room to clean off all the tools and blocks to be reused in the future. A special thanks goes out to the DCRL interns and Mike Cook for this awesome activity, everyone loved it!
Stay tuned to find out what happens next time at the Be A Maker Space!
