CBR F2 Motor Tear down

Man I need to get my act together.

This past Saturday I decided to further rip apart one of two cbr f2 motors that have been sitting on my parents work benches for the greater part of 2 years now (at least!).

The motors both belong to this motorcycle that I have been torn on what to do with. For a period of time I was thinking about trying to convert it into an electric prototype called the "Ghost Prototype" after watching plenty of videos about Ben Nelson's electric conversion, but money is a huge restriction for me. I also wanted to mold new bodywork for it due to the previous owner to chop the rear subframe off. But now I am thinking that I almost want a track bike. Something that I don't really need to worry about getting registered for Wisconsin roads.

So to get on with the actual tear down. I purchased this bike for $100 years ago, and knew that it had a terrible knocking sound in the engine. Not knowing what it was I road it a few times anyway before having major engine failure. I think what actually happened was some sort of metal broke off and completely ruined the head, all bearing surfaces were chewed up. I cannot get two of the valves out, just really bad.

So I talked with friends and they told me that the whole engine would need to be taken apart and cleaned to make sure none of the lower bearing surfaces were ruined. And thats exactly what I did.

It appears that all the journals are clean and ready to be reused.

The transmission and gears all looked to be in good shape, no broken pieces or cracks.

I even took the pistons apart. So in conclusion, I think I will purchase the FSM, and get the lower end put back together after cleaning it, and order a new head. Hopefully I will be up and rolling again in no time.

Until another sleepless night.

Stay tuned!
