I could definitely get into this whole Sign making industry. The above sign was a mockup for the local Maker Faire this year. My bosses at the museum requested that I start and brainstorm ideas for the Handmade marketplace. After plenty of revisions, I came to the above solution.
To show some initiative, and demonstrate the capacity of our CNC machine I decided to write the program needed to CNC the sign out of 3/4" MDF.
The nice thing about MDF is that it machines like "butter." I ran the spindle at 8000RPM going roughly 100-150 IPM. For the pockets I used a 50% stepover.
I just love the look of old shop signs and by creating this sign, it gives me more ideas of other signs that might look cool machined.
