Velocity - Exhibit Design

Its not very often I get to share finished work on my blog but here is a recent finished project that I was able to design for the Betty Brinn Children's Museum. This exhibit is called Velocity and teaches kids about science in a fun and exciting way! In the blue dish (see above) kids get to roll golf balls down the ramp and into the vortex. The balls go around and around and a computer tracks the balls and paints different colors on the dish to show the path.

In the half pipe kids get to race their friends and watch the golf balls go back and forth over and over until the ball eventually settles in the center of the ramps

In the jump track kids get to roll golf balls down the ramp and (hopefully) make it into the catch ramp, but thats half the fun anyway! The catch ramp is movable so kids get to experiment with more velocity, less velocity, or higher/lower starting point. The golf balls get tracked by a computer so kids can see the trajectory of the golf balls in flight so they can make modifications to their jump.

And finally the loop track. This exhibit gives kids a chance to have their golf ball go around a closed loop. The golf balls get tracked and the velocity of the ball gets recorded for kids to check out on the black background.

All of these components are designed from HDPE, ABS, and MDF.
All designs are property of the Betty Brinn Children's Museum.
